← Ping You
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
In short: Ping You has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your location, messages, voice notes and photos go only to the people in your meet-up, encrypted, and are not stored on our servers.
What we handle and why
- Your location — to show you and your group on the map and the radar. It is shared only while a meet-up is running, only with people who have your link or room code. If you allow it, the app keeps sharing while your screen is off, until you end the meet-up.
- Your display name and an optional photo — so your group can recognise you.
- Messages, voice messages and photos you choose to send — delivered to your group only. This includes the map picture and optional photo sent with an SOS.
- Battery level — shown to your group (for example “🔋12% LOW”) so they know if your phone may go quiet, and used to send updates less often when the battery is low.
- SOS and guardians — when you press SOS, everyone in your group, and any guardian you added, is told where you are. If a call to you gets no answer for about 2 minutes, your guardians are told too.
- Notification token — if you allow notifications, your phone's Apple push token is shared, encrypted, with the people in your room so they can wake your phone for an SOS or a call. To send a notification, the token and a short text (such as “🆘 SOS · name”) pass through our server to Apple's push service. They are not stored.
- Shop spot — the photo, name, hours and location you enter are put into the link or QR code you share. Anyone you give the link to can see them.
How it is sent
Everything sent to your group is encrypted on your phone with a key made from your room code. Our relay server (run on Cloudflare) only passes encrypted data between the phones in the room. It cannot read it and does not store it. When everyone leaves, nothing remains.
What stays on your phone
Your name, settings and the last place you were (so place search starts near you) are stored only on your device. Delete the app to remove them.
Services we use
- Apple Maps (MapKit) for maps and place search — see Apple's privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap map tiles and place search, as a backup — your device's IP address and the area shown are sent to load the map.
- Cloudflare for the encrypted relay and Vercel for hosting the app's pages and the small notification service.
- Apple Push Notification service to deliver SOS, call and safety notifications to phones that allowed them.
- Map pictures in SOS use aerial imagery from Esri; the area shown is sent to load it. They may keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security for a short time.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no selling or sharing of data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No location history is kept.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
Permissions
Location (to share with your group), Motion (compass for the radar), Microphone (voice messages, optional), Camera and Photos (optional photos), Speech Recognition (to show voice messages as text, optional), Notifications (SOS, calls and alerts, optional; marked Time Sensitive so an SOS can come through Focus). You can change these any time in Settings › Ping You.
Children
Ping You is not directed at children under 13. Children should use it only with a parent or guardian.
